SSCM Religious Education Program Overview

The mission of our parish Religious Education Program is one that entails more than merely knowing about Jesus Christ and the Church. It also recognizes the need for students to reflect on the experience of Jesus in their own lives, to speak the faith they share, and to relate to one another so that the Word of God becomes present when they gather in Christ’s name.

We provide for our students a Religious Education Program that is: 
CHRIST centered – FAMILY centered – SCRIPTURE centered

The staff for the program is made up of volunteers who serve in the following capacities: catechists, catechist aides, traffic control and office staff. If you are interested in volunteering for the program, please call the Religious Education Office at 630-257-9314. In-house training is provided for all new catechists and aides. The average class size is 12 –15 children. Each catechist has a catechist aide to assist them in the classroom. We will put you in touch with seasoned catechists. There is always a support system available to you.

Registration and Admission Information:

Admission to the religious education program is open to all public school children whose families are registered members of SSCM Parish.

  • If your child was not baptized at SSCM, you must provide a copy of their baptismal certificate at the time of registration for their permanent file.

  • If your child is transferring into our religious education program from another religious education program, then you must provide us with the name of that parish so we can send out a transfer record to them to be completed for your child.

  • Your child must complete first grade in order to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion in second grade. They also need to continue on and complete third through seventh grades to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in eighth grade.

  • All registrations are taken on a first come first serve manner each year. If you need a specific day, please complete your registration form in a timely manner. Class size is limited to 15 children.

  • If you are not a registered parishioner of SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish you may still register your child for the Religious Education Program however non-parishioner tuition is applicable.
